Phantom Blade Zero Bosses: Every Confirmed Fight
Three bosses are verified through hands-on previews — Wan Jun Coppermaul, Red Wraith, and the Chief Disciple of the Seven Stars. A wider community-tracked list awaits launch confirmation.
Fact-checked September 9, 2026
Boss design philosophy from the verified fights: optional bosses you spare can return, and mechanics escalate — dirt-obscured arenas, heal-sacrifices, puppet second phases.
Verified bosses (press hands-on)
| Boss | Where / how | What makes the fight |
|---|---|---|
| Wan Jun "Coppermaul" | First true boss — Burning Granary courtyard (IGN demo) | Massive warhammer; scatters dirt to obscure your screen, then grabs and crushes. Defeating him yields the Bashpole Phantom Edge. |
| Red Wraith | Optional — rooftop of a round building, no cutscene, no gate | Longsword plus thrown blade; the fight feels deliberately easy and Soul offers to leave her. Spared, she returns as a reinforcement in a later boss fight. |
| Chief Disciple of the Seven Stars | Final boss of the IGN demo — moonlit training hall | Seven-body formation: six disciples heal-sacrifice into the chief, then the Fallen Hope marionette phase begins — and a spared Red Wraith can crash it. |
Community-tracked encounters (unverified)
A community boss tracker circulating ahead of launch lists ten encounters across three acts. These names are not yet verified against official sources — treat them as a map of what to expect, not a confirmed list:

| Wan Jun Coppermaul | 1 | Mandatory | Verified (IGN) |
| Red Wraith | 1 | Optional rooftop | Verified (IGN) |
| Chief Disciple of Seven Stars | 2 | Mandatory | Verified (IGN) |
| TieSha the Frenzy | 2 | Semi-optional, branching | Community-tracked |
| Bone-Tide Ronin | 2 | Optional arena | Community-tracked |
| Huangxing the Sunken | 3 | Mandatory | Community-tracked |
| Commander Cleave | 3 | Mandatory (final) | Community-tracked |
| Verdant Crane Sentinel | 3 | Optional shrine | Community-tracked |
| Hollow Drumkeeper | 2 | Hidden mini-boss | Community-tracked |
| Salt-Worn General | 1 | Hidden mini-boss | Community-tracked |
How boss fights escalate
The pattern across verified fights: multi-phase encounters where mechanics stack. The Chief Disciple's disciples funnel health into him if you ignore them; his second phase turns him into a marionette with screen-filling thread attacks. Hellwalker difficulty adds adaptive AI — bosses react to distance and punish repeated patterns (see the combat system). The dancing-lion boss shown at State of Play drops masks from its minions that you can use against the boss itself.
Why sparing bosses matters
Phantom Blade Zero tracks mercy. The Red Wraith fight has no cutscene or arena gate — you can literally walk away. IGN's previewer did, and she returned mid-boss-fight later with fatal consequences. Side-quest outcomes branch similarly, feeding into the eight endings. Kill lists, build notes and loadout synergy live in the builds guide.

Boss questions
Which bosses are officially confirmed?
Three bosses were verified through IGN's TGS 2025 hands-on: Wan Jun Coppermaul, Red Wraith and the Chief Disciple of the Seven Stars. A community tracker lists more, but those entries need launch verification.
Who is Wan Jun Coppermaul?
The first true boss — a towering militia captain with a massive warhammer. He scatters dirt to obscure your screen, and his weapon becomes a claimable Phantom Edge.
Who is the Red Wraith?
An optional rooftop boss with no cutscene or warning. She seems too easy on purpose — Soul himself suggests leaving her. Spare her and she returns mid-fight later, as IGN learned the hard way.
Who is the Chief Disciple of the Seven Stars?
A seven-body formation fight: six disciples plus the chief, who heal-sacrifice into him, then rise again as the Fallen Hope puppet phase. IGN calls it one of the more impressive boss fights in recent memory.
Are there other bosses?
A community tracker names up to ten encounters across three acts — including Huangxing the Sunken and TieSha the Frenzy. We list them separately below as community-tracked, not official.
